Overview
Stromagen is an ex vivo expanded mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy originally developed by Osiris Therapeutics and evaluated in clinical trials at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. It was specifically designed to be administered as an adjunctive treatment for patients with metastatic breast cancer who are undergoing high-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT). The therapeutic rationale involves the infusion of these expanded stromal cells to reconstruct and support the bone marrow microenvironment, which is often damaged by intensive chemotherapy. By providing this stromal support, Stromagen aims to facilitate the rapid engraftment and recovery of CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells, thereby shortening the period of critical cytopenia and reducing transplant-related morbidity.
