Overview

Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) enriched platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous regenerative therapy being investigated by Zagazig University for the treatment of atrophic post-acne scars. The procedure involves the extraction of adipose tissue via lipoaspiration to isolate the SVF—a heterogeneous cell concentrate containing mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, and pericytes—which is then used to supplement autologous PRP. PRP provides a concentrated source of growth factors, including PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF, which facilitate cell proliferation and extracellular matrix remodeling. The combination is hypothesized to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of standard PRP by providing a cellular scaffold and stem cell population that promotes superior dermal regeneration and collagen synthesis compared to either component alone. This specific intervention is being evaluated in a split-face comparative study to assess its efficacy in filling atrophic depressions and improving skin texture.
