Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Strontium-82 chloride is a radioisotope and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging generator active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). It serves as the parent radionuclide loaded into rubidium-82 (Rb-82) generators, such as CardioGen-82 and Ruby-Fill, which produce rubidium chloride Rb-82 injection. In the generator, strontium-82 decays to rubidium-82, which is then eluted and administered to patients for myocardial perfusion imaging. This diagnostic radiopharmaceutical is indicated for the evaluation of suspected or existing coronary artery disease. Strontium-82 chloride is manufactured by BWXT Medical (which acquired Nordion's medical isotope business in 2018) and other suppliers.
