Strontium-89 chloride + zoledronic acid is a combination therapy used primarily for the management of painful bone metastases in cancer patients. Strontium-89 chloride is a radiopharmaceutical that selectively localizes to areas of increased bone turnover, such as metastatic lesions, where it emits beta particles to provide targeted radiation and pain relief. Zoledronic acid is a bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, reducing skeletal-related events and further progression of bone metastases. The combination has been shown in multiple studies to be safe and effective for pain control in patients with various cancers (including breast and prostate) with bone metastases, often providing additive or synergistic effects on analgesia compared to either agent alone[1][3][4][5]. Both agents are administered intravenously.
