Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Strontium apatite is a research-stage, strontium-substituted calcium phosphate (apatite) biomaterial developed as a bone substitute, filler, cement, or implant coating. It is designed to provide sustained local release of strontium ions directly to bone tissue as an alternative to systemic strontium therapies. Strontium ions released from the apatite lattice promote bone formation by stimulating osteoblast activity and inhibit bone resorption by suppressing osteoclast activity. Strontium apatite is investigated for potential applications in osteoporosis, bone defects, bone-graft or implant fixation, and alveolar bone resorption.
