Strontium chloride

Strontium chloride is a salt of strontium and chlorine that exists in both non-radioactive (SrCl2) and radioactive forms (notably Strontium-89 Chloride). The radioactive form (strontium-89 chloride) is used as a radiopharmaceutical agent for the relief of bone pain associated with skeletal metastases from cancers such as prostate and breast cancer. After intravenous injection, it behaves similarly to calcium by localizing in areas of active bone formation—especially metastatic lesions—where it emits beta radiation that helps reduce pain and may have tumoricidal effects. Non-radioactive formulations were previously used in toothpaste for dentin hypersensitivity but are now largely obsolete[1][2][3][4][5].
