Strontium chloride hexahydrate is a small molecule, a salt of strontium and chloride, investigated for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is applied topically and has been studied for its effects on ultraviolet B radiation (UVR) induced inflammation and pain, as well as lower limb post-amputation stump pain. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve modulating nerve activity, potentially by blocking nociceptors and reducing sensory irritation. It also demonstrates anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha, interleukin-1, and interleukin-6. Additionally, strontium chloride is known for its ability to reduce dentinal hypersensitivity by occluding dentinal tubules.
