Overview

Strontium l-lactate is a chemical compound that consists of strontium cation and L-lactic acid as its ligand, forming a salt (Sr(C₃H₅O₃)₂). It appears as a white powder and is highly soluble in water. When taken orally, strontium ions are absorbed efficiently, achieving high bioavailability. Strontium lactate is primarily investigated for its ability to provide bioavailable strontium for supporting bone health. Its mechanism is mainly attributed to the strontium ion, which can increase osteoblast activity (bone formation) and reduce osteoclast activity (bone resorption), much like other strontium salts. Clinical studies indicate serum levels after oral administration reach ranges potentially beneficial for treating low bone density conditions, such as osteoporosis and osteopenia. At studied doses, it was well tolerated and did not produce adverse events[2][4]. Additional historical data suggest it may reduce bone pain in osteoporosis and assist in radiological improvement[4].
