Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Strophanthus Hevert is an over-the-counter homeopathic liquid formulation developed and manufactured by Hevert-Arzneimittel. It contains a D4 dilution of *Strophanthus gratus* (commonly known as strophanthus), a plant native to Central Africa that is rich in cardiac glycosides, particularly g-strophanthin (ouabain). Strophanthus Hevert is indicated for the improvement of well-being in patients experiencing nervous functional cardiovascular complaints, such as temporary heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, or mild cardiac insufficiency. Mechanistically, the active components of *Strophanthus gratus* act as inhibitors of the sodium/potassium-transporting ATPase (Na+/K+-ATPase) pump, which increases intracellular sodium and subsequently calcium levels, leading to positive inotropic and negative chronotropic effects on the heart.
