Stryka 234 (Stryka-234) is an orally administered small molecule designed to increase the expression of α7β1 integrin in muscle cells. Developed by Strykagen in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno, the drug is being investigated for the treatment of rare muscle diseases, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), merosin-deficient congenital muscular dystrophy type 1A (MDC1A), and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I (LGMD2I). The α7β1 integrin is a major laminin-binding protein in skeletal and cardiac muscle that serves a complementary role to the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex. By upregulating α7β1 integrin expression, Stryka 234 aims to stabilize the sarcolemma, prevent muscle disease progression, and improve muscle pathology.
