Stryka-969 is an orally delivered small molecule therapeutic designed to increase the expression of α7β1 integrin in muscle cells. Developed by Strykagen in collaboration with the University of Nevada, Reno, the drug is being investigated for the treatment of muscular dystrophies, including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Merosin-deficient congenital muscular dystrophy type 1A (MDC1A), and Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I (LGMD2I). The α7β1 integrin is a major laminin-binding linkage system in skeletal and cardiac muscle that can act as a functional surrogate for the loss of dystrophin. In preclinical studies, Stryka-969 has demonstrated the ability to enhance α7β1 integrin expression in DMD patient muscle cells, improve muscle regeneration, and increase muscle strength. The candidate is currently in preclinical development, with studies extending into ADME and safety-toxicology to support an Investigational New Drug (IND) application.
