Drug intelligence / Profile preview
STS-01 is a novel, nanoparticle-based, controlled-release topical cream formulation of dithranol (also known as anthralin) developed by Soterios Pharma. It utilizes the proprietary Prosilic delivery technology, which consists of porous silica nanoparticles, to provide a stable and cosmetically elegant once-daily treatment for mild-to-moderate alopecia areata. The drug works by modulating the inflammatory response and inhibiting T-cell proliferation through the disruption of signaling pathways within the hair follicle, thereby down-regulating the autoimmune attack. STS-01 is specifically designed to overcome the historical limitations of traditional dithranol preparations, such as severe skin irritation and staining of skin and fabrics. In Phase 2 clinical trials, STS-01 demonstrated significant hair regrowth in patients with less than 50% scalp hair loss, meeting its primary efficacy endpoints with a favorable safety and tolerability profile.
