**Study formulation** is an investigational, lipid-based multi-ingredient nutraceutical developed for adults at risk of type 2 diabetes. The once-daily oral formulation combines punicic acid-rich pomegranate seed oil, palmitoleic acid-rich buckthorn oil, pinolenic acid-rich pine nut oil, curcumin, chromium picolinate, and the plant sterol campesterol. In an 8-week randomized pilot study, it was evaluated at doses of 3.5 mL and 7 mL daily for effects on insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, abdominal adiposity, inflammation, and metabolic hormones. The formulation has no established single molecular target; its proposed effects reflect complementary actions of its fatty-acid, polyphenol, trace-element, and plant-sterol constituents on insulin signaling, nutrient metabolism, inflammation, and gastrointestinal hormone secretion.
