Overview

STX-001 (also known as SPCD-4-79) is an orally bioavailable, low molecular weight small molecule inhibitor of the Activin receptor Type II (ACTRII) kinase, targeting both ACTRIIA and ACTRIIB isoforms. Developed by Supercede Therapeutics, with intellectual property licensed from Fudan University and East China Normal University, STX-001 is in preclinical development for the treatment of obesity. By inhibiting the ACTRII signaling pathway, the drug aims to promote significant fat loss while preserving or increasing lean muscle mass, addressing a key limitation of existing weight-loss therapies. Preclinical studies in diet-induced obesity mouse models have demonstrated that STX-001, both as a monotherapy and in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists like semaglutide, significantly reduces fat mass, liver mass, and liver fat, while maintaining lean body mass.
