Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suan Zao Ren Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula with a centuries-long history of use as a treatment for insomnia. First documented in the classical Chinese text Jin Gui Yao Lue (Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet) around 210 AD, it consists of five herbs: Suan Zao Ren (Sour Jujube seed), Fu Ling (Poria mushroom), Chuan Xiong (Sichuan Lovage root), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena root), and Gan Cao (Licorice root). The formula works by nourishing liver blood, nourishing the heart, calming the Shen (spirit), clearing heat in the liver and heart, and eliminating irritability. It is primarily used to treat insomnia, anxiety, night sweats, forgetfulness, and other conditions associated with blood and yin deficiency.
