Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SUB01423MIG is an investigational oral formulation of colesevelam hydrochloride, a non-absorbed bile acid sequestrant, developed by Monteresearch S.r.l. specifically for the treatment of bile acid diarrhoea (BAD). The formulation utilizes micro-granule technology (MIG) to optimize the delivery and binding capacity of the active polymer within the gastrointestinal tract. By binding to bile acids in the small intestine, SUB01423MIG prevents them from entering the colon, where they would otherwise induce water secretion and increase motility, leading to chronic diarrhea. This mechanism addresses the underlying pathophysiology of BAD, which is often underdiagnosed in patients with chronic functional diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).
