Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SUB885C is a multi-component traditional Chinese medicine preparation developed according to the principles of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and early stage type 2 diabetes with obesity. The preparation contains eight natural ingredients: *Fructus crataegi* (Hawthorn berries), *Folium Nelumbinis* (lotus leaf), *Folium Apocyni* (dogbane leaf), *Flos Rosae rugosae* (rose flower), *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (rhubarb root), *Depuratum mirabilitum* (mirabilite), *Thallus Sargassi* (sargassum), and honey-fried *Radix Glycyrrhizae* (licorice root)[1][9]. The preparation has demonstrated multiple anti-atherogenic effects including improved insulin sensitivity, reduced plasma cholesterol and triglycerides, increased HDL-cholesterol, decreased CETP (cholesteryl ester transfer protein) levels and activity, and stimulation of lipolysis while inhibiting adipogenesis[1][4]. Studies in ApoE*3Leiden.CETP transgenic mice showed that SUB885C significantly reduced plasma total cholesterol by 49%, triglycerides by 60%, and increased HDL-C by 39% compared to controls[1]. The preparation works through multiple pathways affecting lipid metabolism, lipoprotein regulation, and insulin sensitivity, with effects comparable to various pharmaceutical interventions but with potentially fewer side effects[1].
