Overview

Subcision + platelet-rich plasma is a combination procedural and biological therapy investigated by Assiut University for the treatment of atrophic post-acne scars. The treatment involves subcision, a surgical technique using an 18-gauge blunt cannula to release fibrotic strands under the skin, followed by the intradermal injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP acts as a concentrated source of growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which promote fibroblast proliferation, collagen neogenesis, and tissue remodeling. This combination approach aims to provide superior cosmetic outcomes compared to subcision alone by addressing both the mechanical tethering of scars and the underlying dermal volume loss.
