Overview

Suberoyl bishydroxamic acid is a small molecule *histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor* with demonstrated anticancer properties in preclinical models. It exerts its effects primarily by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells, often associated with upregulation of p53 and pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins, and activation of Notch1 signaling. SBHA has shown activity in vitro and in vivo in medullary thyroid carcinoma, breast cancer, melanoma, carcinoid tumors, and Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus-infected cells. There is currently no clinical data for SBHA in humans; related drugs in this class include vorinostat (SAHA)[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][10].
