Succinic lipoic amantadine is a small molecule derivative of amantadine being developed by Changchun Huayang High-Tech for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The compound is designed to combine the NMDA receptor antagonistic activity of amantadine with the antioxidant properties of lipoic acid and the metabolic support of succinic acid. It has undergone Phase 1 clinical evaluation in China, including studies on its pharmacokinetic profile, safety, and potential for QT interval prolongation (CTR20200956). By targeting multiple pathways involved in neurodegeneration, including glutamatergic excitotoxicity and oxidative stress, it aims to provide a more comprehensive therapeutic approach than amantadine alone.
