Succinylated gelatin is a chemically modified gelatin-polypeptide colloid used as an intravenous plasma-volume substitute. It exerts a physical, non-receptor-mediated effect: retained colloid molecules increase intravascular oncotic pressure and transiently expand circulating plasma volume, supporting venous return, cardiac output, blood pressure, and tissue perfusion during volume loss or perioperative hemodilution.
