Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Proctocalm is a topical combination cream containing sucralfate, metronidazole, and lidocaine (lignocaine) hydrochloride, developed and manufactured by Gopal Lifesciences. It is indicated for the local treatment and symptomatic relief of painful anorectal conditions, including anal fissures, hemorrhoids (piles), fistulas, and post-operative anorectal wounds. Within the formulation, lidocaine acts as a local anesthetic to provide rapid pain relief by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. Metronidazole serves as an antibacterial agent targeting anaerobic bacteria to prevent local infections and reduce inflammation. Sucralfate acts as a cytoprotective agent, forming a physical barrier over damaged mucosal tissue to shield it from irritation and promote wound healing.
