The combination of sucrose and hesperetin is being studied as an intervention for blood glucose regulation and energy metabolism. Hesperetin is a flavonoid found in citrus fruits with potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic properties. When combined with sucrose, it appears to influence blood glucose regulation and energy metabolism. A clinical cross-over intervention study is investigating the effects of hesperetin (50 mg/L) combined with 7% sucrose compared to control solutions (an equally sweet 10% sucrose solution and an isocaloric 7% sucrose solution) on markers of energy metabolism, time-dependent blood glucose fluctuations, energy intake, appetite scores, and metabolic/hormonal responses in metabolically healthy volunteers. Research also suggests that hesperetin can enhance the sweet taste of substances, potentially allowing for reduced sugar content.
