Overview

Sudocrem is a multi-ingredient topical antiseptic healing cream primarily used for the treatment of diaper rash (nappy rash) and other minor skin irritations. Originally developed in 1931 by Thomas Smith, it is currently marketed by Teva. The formulation consists of zinc oxide (15.25%), which provides a protective water-repellent barrier and has astringent properties; benzyl alcohol (0.39%), which acts as a mild local anesthetic and disinfectant; and benzyl benzoate (1.01%) and benzyl cinnamate (0.15%), which contribute to its antiseptic and healing effects. Lanolin (4%) is included as an emollient to soothe and soften the skin. It is widely available over-the-counter in the UK and Ireland for indications including eczema, bedsores, acne, and minor burns.
