Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suduvax is a live attenuated varicella (chickenpox) vaccine developed by Green Cross Corporation (now GC Biopharma). It contains the MAV/06 strain of the varicella-zoster virus, which was isolated from a Korean patient in 1989 and attenuated through multiple passages in human embryonic lung cells and guinea pig embryonic lung cells. Launched in 1994, it was South Korea's first and the world's second varicella vaccine. The vaccine is used to prevent chickenpox in healthy individuals and has been distributed globally, including through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). It is administered as a subcutaneous injection and has been used as a comparator in clinical trials for newer varicella vaccines like MG1111 (Barycela).
