Overview
Polivalente Liofilizado is a lyophilized polyvalent antivenom developed by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP) for the treatment of snakebite envenomation caused by vipers in Central and South America. It consists of purified F(ab')2 fragments of IgG antibodies obtained from the plasma of horses immunized with a mixture of venoms from *Bothrops asper*, *Crotalus durissus*, and *Lachesis stenophrys*. The mechanism of action involves the specific binding and neutralization of various venom components, including snake venom metalloproteinases (SVMPs), phospholipases A2 (PLA2s), and serine proteinases, thereby preventing systemic and local tissue damage. The lyophilized formulation provides improved stability and a longer shelf life compared to liquid versions, making it suitable for use in tropical regions with limited cold chain infrastructure.
