Sufentanil Viatris is a generic formulation of the potent synthetic opioid analgesic sufentanil. It is primarily indicated as an adjunct to general anesthesia, for the induction and maintenance of anesthesia, and for epidural administration in pain management. As a thienyl analogue of fentanyl, sufentanil is approximately 5 to 10 times more potent than fentanyl and 500 to 1,000 times more potent than morphine. Its mechanism of action involves highly selective binding and activation of the mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, leading to profound analgesia and sedation. The product is marketed by Viatris, following its acquisition of Mylan's portfolio, and is used in clinical settings requiring rapid-onset, high-potency analgesia.
