Suhuang Antitussive Capsule is a traditional Chinese patent medicine composed of nine herbal and animal-derived ingredients, including Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Perillae Folium (Zisuye), Pheretima (Dilong), Arctii Fructus (Niubangzi), Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus (Wuweizi), Peucedani Radix (Qianhu), Cicadae Periostracum (Chantui), Eriobotryae Folium (Pipaye) and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle (Zhigancao)[2][6]. It is widely used in China for the treatment of cough variant asthma and postinfectious cough[3][6]. The mechanism of action involves multiple pathways: - Inhibition of lung inflammation by modulating the IL-17 signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt pathway, NF-κB signaling, and p38 MAPK pathway[1][2][4]. - Key active compounds such as quercetin and luteolin directly inhibit IL-17 signaling and inactivate PI3K/Akt/NF-κB to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine production[1]. - Additional anti-inflammatory effects are attributed to components like praeruptorin A, schisandrin, arctiin, pseudoephedrine[6].
