Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suhuang Cough Capsules (also known as Suhuang Zhike Capsules) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed based on the 'Wind-type Cough' theory proposed by National TCM Master Professor Chao Enxiang of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital. It is manufactured and marketed by Beijing Haiyan Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Pharmaceutical Group. The formulation is composed of nine herbal and animal-derived ingredients: Ephedra herba (Mahuang), Perilla frutescens leaf (Zisuye), Lumbricus (Dilong), Cicadae periostracum (Chantui), Arctium lappa seed (Niubangzi), Schisandra chinensis fruit (Wuweizi), Peucedanum praeruptorum root (Qianhu), Eriobotryae Folium (Pipaye), and Perilla frutescens seed (Zisuzi). It is approved in China for the treatment of cough variant asthma (CVA) and post-infectious cough (PIC) characterized by symptoms such as cough, itchy throat, and airway hyperresponsiveness. Suhuang Cough Capsules exert their therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, antitussive, and bronchodilatory mechanisms, which include suppressing airway inflammation by reducing levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-4, IL-5, and TNF-alpha) and lowering serum IgE levels.
