Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Suhuang Zhike is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for the treatment of cough variant asthma (CVA) and post-infectious cough. Developed by the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, it is composed of nine herbal and animal-derived ingredients, including Ephedra, Perilla leaf, and Cicada slough. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, antitussive, and bronchodilatory mechanisms, effectively reducing airway hyperresponsiveness and suppressing cough. It is widely prescribed in China as a standard treatment for wind-cough syndrome, which aligns with the clinical presentation of CVA.
