Overview
Suhuang Zhike capsule (苏黄止咳胶囊) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Beijing Haiyan Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Pharmaceutical Group. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of cough variant asthma (CVA) and post-infectious cough (PIC) characterized by symptoms such as cough, itchy throat, and airway hyperresponsiveness. The capsule is composed of nine herbal ingredients: Ephedra herba, Perilla frutescens, Scutellaria baicalensis, Lumbricus, Peucedanum praeruptorum, Arctium lappa, Cicadae periostracum, Schisandra chinensis, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of airway inflammation by reducing levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, and TNF-α, as well as lowering serum IgE levels. It is widely used in clinical practice in China and is included in several national guidelines for respiratory diseases.
