Overview
Suhuang Zhike Granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Beijing Dongfang Yunjia Technology Development Co., Ltd. and manufactured by Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of cough variant asthma (CVA) and post-infectious cough (PIC), characterized by symptoms such as dry cough, throat itching, and airway hyperresponsiveness. The formulation is composed of nine herbal and animal-derived ingredients: *Ephedra sinica*, *Perilla frutescens* (seed and leaf), *Scutellaria baicalensis*, *Peucedanum praeruptorum*, *Arctium lappa*, *Cicada slough*, *Lumbricus*, and *Schisandra chinensis*. Its pharmacological effects include bronchodilation via beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonism (primarily from ephedrine), anti-inflammatory activity through the inhibition of inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes and cytokines (IL-4, IL-5), and antitussive effects by reducing airway sensitivity and hyperresponsiveness. It is widely utilized in China as a standard non-steroidal treatment for chronic cough management.
