Sulawesi propolis extract

Sulawesi propolis extract is a natural product extract derived from Tetragonula spp. bees (specifically Tetragonula aff. biroi) native to the Masamba region of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Developed by researchers at Indonesia University (Universitas Indonesia), the extract is being investigated as a potential therapeutic for endometriosis. It contains a complex profile of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids and phenolic acids such as 2-methoxykurarinone, kurarinone, and chrysin-7-O-β-d-glucopyranoside. The extract exerts its effects by suppressing the growth of endometriotic tissue through the induction of apoptotic activity and the reduction of inflammatory markers. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of multiple biological targets, including the inhibition of TNF-α and NF-κB signaling, and the antagonism or modulation of estrogen receptors (ER-α, ER-β), progesterone receptor B, and prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP2, EP3). Preclinical studies in rat models have demonstrated that the extract significantly reduces lesion growth and inflammatory activity compared to standard treatments like dienogest.
