Overview

Suldaparin sodium is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) developed by Yantai Dongcheng Pharmaceutical Group for the prevention and treatment of thrombotic disorders. It functions as an anticoagulant by binding to and enhancing the activity of antithrombin III (ATIII). This complex then inactivates activated coagulation factors, primarily Factor Xa and, to a lesser extent, Factor IIa (thrombin), thereby preventing the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin. Suldaparin sodium is being evaluated in clinical trials for the prevention of perioperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) in high-risk patients, including those undergoing major orthopedic surgery and liver transplantation for conditions such as liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
