Overview

Sulesomab is a murine (mouse-derived) monoclonal antibody fragment (Fab') that targets the NCA-90 antigen, also known as CEACAM6, present on the surface of human granulocytes. It is primarily used as a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent when labeled with technetium-99m (99mTc), marketed under the brand name LeukoScan. After intravenous administration, 99mTc-sulesomab binds preferentially to activated or primed granulocytes at sites of infection or inflammation, enabling sensitive imaging via gamma camera. Its main approved indication is for locating and assessing infection/inflammation in bone in patients with suspected osteomyelitis, including those with diabetic foot ulcers. The mechanism involves both nonspecific extravasation due to increased vascular permeability at inflamed sites and specific binding to upregulated CD66c/CEACAM6 on activated granulocytes[1][2][3][5][6][7]. Sulesomab was originally developed by Immunomedics.
