Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sulfogaiacol + Pentoxyverine Citrate + Promethazine Hydrochloride Granules is a fixed-dose combination product developed and marketed by Anhui Jiuhua Huayuan Pharmaceutical for the symptomatic treatment of cough and upper respiratory tract symptoms. The formulation combines three active small molecules: sulfogaiacol, which acts as an expectorant to increase respiratory tract secretions and facilitate mucus clearance; pentoxyverine citrate, a non-opioid antitussive that suppresses the cough reflex through sigma-1 receptor agonism and muscarinic antagonism; and promethazine hydrochloride, a first-generation H1-antihistamine that reduces allergic symptoms and provides mild sedation. This synergistic combination is administered orally in granule form and is approved in China for typical symptomatic relief in respiratory conditions.
