Overview

Sulfotep is an organophosphate insecticide and acaricide primarily used as a fumigant in greenhouses. It is a highly toxic small molecule that acts as an irreversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, leading to the accumulation of acetylcholine at nerve synapses and disruption of normal nervous system function in insects and mammals. Sulfotep was first commercially launched by Bayer in 1946. It is absorbed via oral, dermal, or inhalational routes and metabolized through desulfuration followed by hydrolysis; excretion occurs mainly via urine. Due to its high toxicity, it poses significant risks to human health upon exposure[1][2][3][5][6][8].
