Sulindac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat mild to moderate pain and relieve symptoms of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute gout. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which cause pain, fever, and inflammation. Sulindac is also used for conditions like bursitis and tendinitis. It is a prodrug that is metabolized into an active sulfide compound in the body.
