It works by causing DNA strand breakage after reduction within susceptible organisms. The triple combination has no established brand or regulatory approval as a fixed-dose product but may be considered experimentally or off-label for conditions where both malaria and anaerobic/protozoal infections co-exist, or where drug repurposing is under investigation (e.g., resistant bacterial vaginosis)[1]. Each component acts via distinct mechanisms—sulphadoxine inhibits dihydropteroate synthase, pyrimethamine inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, and metronidazole disrupts DNA synthesis.
