Sumansetron

Sumansetron is a pharmaceutical product that is marketed as a kit containing a combination of two active ingredients: sumatriptan and ondansetron. The kit is primarily indicated for the treatment of severe nausea and vomiting, particularly in patients undergoing chemotherapy or post-operative care. Sumatriptan is a selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist, which in the context of migraine, causes cranial vasoconstriction and inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides. Ondansetron is a selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, which works by blocking the action of serotonin on vagal nerve terminals and in the chemoreceptor trigger zone, thereby preventing nausea and vomiting. The combined action of these two drugs provides effective relief from these symptoms.
