Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sumavel DosePro is a needle-free, single-use delivery system for the subcutaneous administration of sumatriptan, a selective 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist. Developed by Zogenix using the DosePro technology (originally acquired from BioValve), it is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine (with or without aura) and cluster headache in adults. The device uses a compressed nitrogen gas power source to deliver the medication through the skin without a needle, providing a rapid-onset alternative for patients who may have needle phobia or require fast relief during a migraine attack. It was co-promoted in the US by Astellas Pharma and later acquired by Endo International.
