Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sumecigrel (formerly known as Vicagrel) is a small molecule, oral antiplatelet ester prodrug being developed by Jiangsu Vcare PharmaTech in collaboration with China Pharmaceutical University. It is a new-generation P2Y12 receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment and prevention of atherosclerotic thrombotic events, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS), ischemic stroke (IS), and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Sumecigrel is designed to address clopidogrel resistance by optimizing the metabolic pathway of clopidogrel while retaining the same active metabolite, thereby reducing reliance on the CYP2C19 enzyme. This metabolic optimization offers advantages such as a faster onset of action, lower therapeutic dosage, more stable efficacy, and better control of bleeding risks. The New Drug Application (NDA) for Sumecigrel Capsule has been accepted by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), and regulatory preparations are underway in the United States and Europe. Everest Medicines holds an exclusive licensing agreement to develop and commercialize Sumecigrel in the Asia-Pacific region.
