SUN N8075 is a small molecule neuroprotective agent developed for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, most notably Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). It exerts its effects through a multi-modal mechanism that includes the induction of VGF nerve growth factor inducible (VGF), which helps protect motor neurons from endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced apoptosis. Additionally, SUN N8075 acts as a T-type calcium channel blocker and possesses antioxidant properties. Preclinical studies in mutant SOD1 transgenic mouse and rat models of ALS have shown that SUN N8075 can slow disease progression and prolong survival by maintaining VGF expression levels in the spinal cord. The compound was originally developed by Suntory and has been evaluated in early-phase clinical trials.
