Overview

SUN13834 is a novel, orally administered small molecule chymase inhibitor developed by Asubio Pharma and Daiichi Sankyo for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Chymase is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease stored in mast cell granules and implicated in allergic diseases and skin inflammation. Preclinical studies demonstrated that SUN13834 ameliorates skin inflammation and pruritus in animal models of atopic dermatitis by inhibiting mast cell chymase activity, reducing inflammatory cell accumulation, and decreasing scratching behavior. Clinical development reached phase 2 trials for atopic dermatitis but was discontinued before approval.
