Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sunflower oleodistillate, also known by the brand name Soline®, is a patented active ingredient developed by Laboratoires Expanscience. It is a purified concentrate of the unsaponifiable fraction of sunflower oil, obtained through a solvent-free molecular distillation process. [1, 10] This process enriches the oil with valuable components like sterols and tocopherols. [10] Sunflower oleodistillate functions as a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-α) agonist. [2, 3, 12] This mechanism of action stimulates the synthesis of key epidermal lipids, such as ceramides, which helps to reinforce the skin's barrier function, improve hydration, and reduce transepidermal water loss. [2, 11] It also exhibits anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, making it effective for the management of dry, sensitive, and atopic dermatitis-prone skin, where it has demonstrated a steroid-sparing effect in clinical studies.
