Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sunflower seed, often utilized in its oil form (SSO) or as whole seeds, is a natural product with various therapeutic applications. Topically, sunflower seed oil is applied to neonates to maintain skin integrity, improve skin barrier function, and reduce the risk of infections and mortality, particularly in preterm infants and those with severe acute malnutrition. Orally, sunflower seeds are consumed to lower blood cholesterol levels, modulate lipid profiles, and contribute to cardiovascular health. Additionally, sunflower seeds are incorporated into seed cycling protocols to support menstrual regularity, alleviate dysmenorrhea, and reduce premenstrual symptoms. Its components, such as essential fatty acids, are believed to contribute to these beneficial effects.
