Supemtek

Supemtek (marketed as Flublok Quadrivalent in the United States) is a quadrivalent recombinant influenza vaccine (RIV4) developed by Sanofi Pasteur. Unlike traditional egg-based or cell-based vaccines, Supemtek is produced using a baculovirus expression vector system to express recombinant hemagglutinin (rHA) proteins in insect cells. This manufacturing process allows for a precise match to the circulating strains and avoids egg-adaptive mutations. The vaccine contains 45 mcg of hemagglutinin antigen per strain, which is three times the amount found in standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccines. It is indicated for the active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza A subtype viruses and type B viruses in adults aged 18 years and older, and has demonstrated superior efficacy in older adults compared to standard egg-based vaccines.
