Super-activated platelet lysate (sPL) is a biologic therapeutic derived from the lysis of activated platelets, designed to release a concentrated milieu of growth factors and cytokines. Unlike standard platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which contains intact platelets, sPL is produced by triggering the release of alpha-granule contents through chemical or physical activation (e.g., using thrombin or freeze-thaw cycles), followed by the removal of cellular debris. This process results in high concentrations of regenerative proteins, including Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β), and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). In the context of neuropathic pain such as postherpetic neuralgia, sPL is investigated for its ability to modulate neuroinflammation and promote the repair of damaged peripheral nerves.
