SuperDopamide is a novel **levodopa derivative** (also termed SDA, AcCys-L-Dopa amide) designed for potential **disease modification in Parkinson's disease** and related disorders. It consists of **N-acetylcysteine (NAC)** conjugated to DopAmide (a levodopa precursor), forming a dipeptide. This structure aims to deliver both NAC (an antioxidant not normally able to cross the blood-brain barrier) and a sustained release of levodopa through a single molecule. Preclinical animal studies show that SuperDopamide provides relief of motor symptoms and may protect dopaminergic neurons in PD models. The mechanism involves **antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory actions** via attenuation of oxidative stress-induced MAPK-inflammatory/apoptotic pathways, as well as lowering α-synuclein aggregation. SuperDopamide is not approved for human clinical use and appears to be in early preclinical research and development[2].
