Supernitro

Supernitro is an intravenous nitric oxide (NO) delivery system developed by Attgeno AB, designed for the targeted treatment of acute pulmonary hypertension. The drug candidate consists of nitric oxide bound to propanediol, which acts as a carrier to stabilize the gas for systemic administration. Upon infusion, Supernitro exhibits an ultra-short half-life, selectively releasing approximately 80% of its nitric oxide payload into the pulmonary circulation. This localized release activates soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) in the pulmonary vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and a reduction in pulmonary arterial pressure without causing significant systemic hypotension. Attgeno completed a Phase IIa clinical trial in 2024 evaluating Supernitro in patients with acute pulmonary hypertension following cardiac surgery. The company is also exploring the platform for other indications, including pulmonary embolism, chronic pulmonary hypertension, ischemia, and various infections and cancers.
